Celebrity Couples Battling Over Spousal Support

Posted by A. Lou Benassi | Mar 06, 2017 | 0 Comments

A separation or divorce can be a very emotional time for everyone involved, especially when the couple has children. The couple may fight over custody of the children and how much one has to pay in spousal support. If one of the couples becomes involved in a new relationship, it may further complicate the dispute. Celebrity couples have similar disputes as any other couple; however, the difference is that celebrity couples have their disputes aired in public.

Lady Gaga's new boyfriend, Christian Carino, has been ordered to pay spousal support to his ex-wife to the tune of over $20,000 a month until 2023. Carino, who is Gaga's talent agent, was married to Brooke Baldwin, with whom they have two daughters. When Baldwin filed for divorce in 2015 citing irreconcilable differences, she sought custody, child support, and spousal support.

The divorce was contentious as they fought over the amount of the payments and who should get their multiple properties in California and New York. According to an order as part of the divorce ruling, Carino was ordered to pay Baldwin $20,338 per month until June 30, 2023, or until Baldwin remarries or registers as a domestic partner. This is in addition to almost $9,000 a month in child support.

Keegan-Michael Key, one-half of the comedy show Key & Peele is facing a spousal support request from his ex-wife of 17 years, Cynthia Blaise. Blaise filed for spousal support claiming financial ruin after the divorce because she had to give up her job as a dialect coach. Blaise said the separation caused severe depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Blaise said she supported Key before he became a TV and film star.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott are expecting their 5th child, and are ready to throw a big baby shower. However, McDermott is under fire for failing to provide spousal support and child support to his ex-wife of 13 years, Mary Jo Eustace. Eustace claims McDermott has not paid at least 8 installments of spousal support, totaling almost $6,000. Eustace is now taking the matter to court.

Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of the legendary Elvis Presley, has been going through a hotly contested separation with Michael Lockwood. The court has already ordered Presley to pay $50,000 of Lockwood's attorney fees. One of the subjects of their disputes involves Lockwood's request for spousal support. Presley is disputing the spousal support request based on a post-nuptial agreement. If the court upholds the agreement, Presley may be ordered to pay spousal support to Lockwood. Presley filed for divorce alleging Lockwood took advantage of her financially and is a poor father to their twin daughter.s
